Liberal lesbian publisher Anna Yevreinova, a feminist activist and editor, was the founder and publisher of Northern Herald that she edited jointly with her lover Maria Feodorova. She lived openly with her female partners, arrangement that, in her time, was accepted by her family and by society.

She was the first Russian woman to be awarded a degree in law from the University of Liepzig.
