Elizabeth was the first theologian in the United Kingdom specialising in lesbian/gay/queer theology to be appointed to a professorial chair. She is Professor of Christian Theology at King Alfred's College, Winchester.
She is a long-standing member of the Lesbian and Gay Christian Movement and convened its Roman Catholic Caucus for ten years. She was founding chair of the Centre for the Study of Christianity and Sexuality. She co-edits the academic journal Theology and Sexuality.
She has written a number of books on theology and sexuality including Daring to Speak Love's Name (1992), Chosen: Gay Catholic Priests Tell Their Stories (1993), Just Good Friends: Towards a Theology of Lesbian and Gay Relationships (1995), People of Passion (1996) and Religion is a Queer Thing (1998).
Her latest book Lesbian and Gay Theologies: Repetitions with Critical Difference will be published by Ashgate in 2003. She is a priest in the Open Episcopal Church. She is most proud of having been declared a saint by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence (UK) in 1995.
Elizabetht was consecrated as a Bishop in the Open Episcopal Church (a small, independent grouping within the United Kingdom). In 2006 she became Archbishop of the Province of Great Britain and Ireland of the Liberal Catholic Church International.
