Susan Sontag

Writer, cultural critic and political activist
In 1963 she published her first novel, Benefactor, and in 1967 the novel Death Kit. In 1964 appeared one of her most important essays, Notes on "Camp". Even though she is a lesbian writer, her work has not articulated a concern qith female homosexuality but has consistently investigated gay culture. In 1989 Sontag published AIDS and Its Metaphors, in which she focused the debates on HIV/AIDS as a cultural as well as a medical syndrome.
