Peter was born in the United States, of Chinese ancestry, and raised in San Francisco. Both his parents were architects, and who instilled in him the ideal of purity of form, function and composition that have become hallmarks of his collection.
Peter's obsession with fashion began in the fifth grade while paging through copies of his older sister's fashion magazines. The images prompted him to start sketching, and he never stopped.
At Connecticut College, Peter studied and excelled in art and art history. He then studied fashion at Parsons College of Design, in New York. He first interned with Calvin Klein and Michael Kors, before accepting a position at Bill Blass. He gained real hands-on experience with these great designers. In 1997, he was recognizd by the CFDA as a rising young talent in their Scholarship Competition.
In 1998, Peter started his own label, and launched his first collection in Fall 1999. He designs simple, wearable and sexy clothes, which have been seen on TV shows as well as on the racks of stores from New York to Tokyo. His clothes can walk right off the runway and into the street, he has never designed crazy or over the top garments. His elegant classic designs stand out from magazine pages.
Peter was one of five designers singled out by VOGUE as a member of "Generation Next" in their celebration of American fashion.
When he was just ready, in September 2001, to present his Spring/Summer 2002 collection, the events all got cancelled due to the terrorist attacks of 9/11. To help them out, Vogue financed a special show of 11 young designers and Carolina Herrara lent them her 7th Avenue showroom in New York. Peter was one of those young designers and this is a dress from his collection.
In September 2002, Peter presented his collection for Spring/Summer 2003 during the New York fashion week. He was nominated in 2002 for the Council of Fashion Designers of America Perry Ellis Award for emerging talent.
