William Sledd, born in Paducah, Kentucky, is a vlogger on YouTube. As of February 2008, he has over 90,000 subscribers and is 12th most subscribed vlogger of all time. His videos center around fashion, hair and the one time cupcake-baking episode. The series is most well known for its "Ask a Gay Man" episodes where Sledd, as an openly gay man, explains the latest trends in fashion and occasionally goes on location to point out fashion "dont's" as part of his Fashion Victim editions.
Sledd's fame has grown outside the YouTube community thanks to the recognition of various television and magazine media. The first publication to print articles about "Ask a Gay Man" was Instinct magazine. On November 2, 2006, Women's Wear Daily published an article about Sledd and his "Ask a Gay Man" videos.[4] Christine Ebersole would next express her love for Sledd on The View. The Los Angeles Times has since dedicated almost a full page to Sledd. Glamour.com has also blogged about Sledd.
The June 2007 edition of Elle magazine features an article on Sledd's videos. The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that Sledd's "Ask a Gay Man" series would be added to Bravo's OUTzonetv.com website. Sledd's growing fame beyond YouTube was next reported on in the June 10, 2007 edition of The Baltimore Sun: "With Sledd's established audience, he is a valuable commodity to a channel like NBC's Bravo unit, with whom he has been speaking."
William Sledd most recently appeared in Glamour magazine; a portion of which can be found on Glamour.com, known as the "Dos and Don'ts Denim Edition" in which he talks about the dos and don'ts of clothing that are often seen in his Fashion Victim editions. Sledd also partook in a YouTube-style interview with Glamour's Fashion editor Suze Yalof Schwartz, in which Schwartz asked him several questions based around his videos and fashion advice.
On July 1, 2007 Sledd won the first ever Flamingo Award for Outstanding Gayness in the category of "Best Video Blog" for the "Ask a Gay Man: Denim Edition" series. William also has a growing friendship with two-time Tony Award-winning actress Christine Ebersole. He has flown to New York to celebrate her birthday with her and to see her perform in the Broadway musical Grey Gardens. She has also made a guest appearance in his video titled Christine Ebersole Defends Sweatpants.
