David Scondras, gay activist who served for 10 years on the Boston City Council (first openly gay candidate elected as a member), is the president of Search for a Cure in Boston, and an AIDS treatment activist. He developed the nationally recognized HIV treatment series, Reasons for Hope.
He was invited to India and Malawi by philanthropists concerned about the rapidly growing HIV epidemic in these countries, and looking for opportunities to work together with people and organizations in the U.S.
