Born in Paris, Schneider was origanally cast to play the part of Conchita in Luis Buñuel last film That obscure object of Desire but was fired during the first days of shooting and replaced with two actresses (Angela Molina and Carole Bouquet).

She is most famous for playing Jeanne opposite Marlon Brando in the 1972 movie Last Tango in Paris.
