Silviano Santiago, a renowned novelist, theorist and critic and openly gay, was born at Formiga, near Minas Gerais. He is Professor at the University of Rio de Janeiro. Dr Santiago is the editor of the anthology The Space In-Between: Essays on Latin American Culture.
