Nicholas I had a younger brother, Mikhail, and together they grew up in the care of an old General, named Lamsdorff.
In 1824 Mikhail Pavlovich was appointed to the position of commander-in-chief of the Life Guard Moscow Regiment. Later, he became Commandant of the Russian Artillery.
