Jules Michelet (1798 - 1874) France Historian Born in Paris, son of a poor typographer, he studied at the College de St. Barbare and became a teacher. From 1830 he was Chief of the National Historical Archives. He also held courses at the Collège de France, but his liberal thought made him to be suspended twice from teaching.
