Bisexual. She was born in Los Angeles as Angelina Jolie Voight. She's the daughter of actor Jon Voight. In 2000 she won an Oscar for best supporting actress for the movie Girl, Interrupted. In 2001 she was appointed goodwill ambassador for UN High Commission for refugees. In may 2000 she married actor, singer and director Billy Bob Thornton, with whom she adopted a Cambodian orphan, Maddox (born august 5, 2001). The couple divorced in 2002.

In a 2001 interview with a British newspaper, Joile acknowledged having had a lesbian affair when she was 20.

"I fell in love with somebody who happened to be a woman. I thought people should know my experience was very real, very normal, and there were a lot of things I learnt. It was beautiful and different and so I thought I would share it."
