Pseudonym of Ellington Gray, born in Ripon, Yorkshire. Now largely forgotten, this lesbian writer of popular novels, wrote prolifically throughout her life, mainly in the 1930s and 1940s. Jacob fell in love for Una Troubridge, but was rejected by her. Jacob wrote autobiographies, including one of the music hall artiste and male impersonator Marie Lloyd.
