Chairman, Toronto Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce; also founder of the Mentoring Business Services in 1993 as a consulting business to help gay and lesbian professionals find mentors.
Tyrrel was elected as the first President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, London, England (1986 - 1988), Sri-lanka branch. As President he gave lectures at marketing courses, mentored many students, and was instrumental in having marketing recognised as a bona fide profession. In Canada, Tyrrel has spent four years familiarizing himself with North American business and marketing systems while studying to upgrade his foreign professional certifications.
While studying, Tyrrel was selected to participate in the Human Resource Canada (SEA) program (3 months full-time classroom, 9 months field training). As a part of the business program he started Mentor Business Services. Tyrrel has worked with the Canadian Institute of Marketing (Secretary/Director, membership development) as an advisor to help develop the marketing profession in Canada.
