Ibo
Nigeria
Tribe
African people known to have had female husbands or male daughters.
Among the Ibo, the influence of colonialists inspired the queen to substitute a European male hat for her traditional crown, and inspired females of high social standing to adopt male European garb and to bind their breasts in an attempt to approximate the look of powerful European males.
(Note: this data is derived from colonial rather than indigenous sources, and as such probably says more about the observer's viewpoint than about the motivations of the people being observed.)
