Former teacher and drug and alcohol counselor; Associate Pastor for Outreach and Evangelism at St. Francis Lutheran Church, San Francisco.

"The truth is, God has already done the choosing and conferred our welcome in baptism. But until sexual minority people have access to all of God's house, until our loving commitments are fully recognized and we are invited to host the Lord's table, the heavenly banquet cannot be fully realized here on earth. God has sent the heavenly messengers out into the Castro, into the gay bars, into AIDS hospices, into theaters, and into music halls, indeed, wherever we can be found, to invite to the Heavenly Feast those whom the church has spurned."

Ruth was ordained on January 20, 1990 and served as the Associate Pastor for Outreach and Evangelism at St. Francis Lutheran Church, San Francisco.

In 1990, she founded Lutheran Lesbian and Gay Ministry along with his colleagues, Pastors Jeff Johnson and Phyllis Zillhart, to provide an outreach to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community of the San Francisco Bay Area. These three persons were the first openly lesbian and gay people to be ordained in the Lutheran Church.

Ruth is an accomplished stained glass artist who has completed projects at St. Francis and Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Sacramento, CA.
