Demetrius I Poliorcetes
(336 - 282 BC) Macedonia
King
Demetrius was known to be a lover of young boys. In 307 BC he seized Athen, chasing the tyrant Demetrius Phalereus and restoring the democracy. A strenuous, active, rich in talent, but inconstant man, Demetrius is one of the outstanding figure in Macedonian history. He was harmed by his too bold project, never renounced - to reconstitue his father's empire. In 290 BC he was defeated and had to surrender to Seleucus. He died a few years later, as a prisoneer.
