Cao Xueqin's given name was Cao Zhan and his courtesy name is Mengruan. His name is also spelled Ts'ao Hsueh-ch'in.
He wrote the novel Hung Lou Mêng (Dream of the Red Chamber), the most famous Chinese novel, that describes also the lesbian relationship between Nenuphar and Pivoine.
