Heinz was born in Hargen, Germany as Heinz George Swartze, son of a German Mother and an English Father. He went with his Parents to settle in the UK in Eastleigh, Southampton. As he grew up around Southamptom, and went to school at North End. Prior to the start of his musical career in 1962, the 19-year-old boy had been slicing bacon in a Southampton grocery. He was effected like everyone else by the music scene of that time and formed his own band, first the "Stormers", then "The Falcons", making their first public appearance in 1960.

Heinz was with the "Falcons" when they auditioned for Joe Meek. Joe did not think much of the Band but fell in love with Heinz. He originally tried to place him with his In-House-Band "The Outlaws". This did not work out, probably due to the fact Heinz was simply not a good enough bass player to be in such a great group.

Heinz Burt was one of the members of "The Tornados", founded by Joe Meek, and moved into Joe Meek's Holloway Road flat; he was groomed for promotion as a pop star and was required to peroxide his hair. Joe Meek separated him from "The Tornados" to promote his solo career.

Inadequacies in his singing required some adjustments to his debut single but it still flopped. Heinz was then sent on tour with the American rock singers Gene Vincent and Jerry Lee Lewis, but instead of facing audiences of adoring girls he was confronted with male youth who threw beans onto the stage. He next had his 1963 hit Just Like Eddie, and then in 1964 he had some success with You Were There.

Joe Meek was furious when Heinz fell in love with a girl. Heinz later had two marriages, both of which ended in divorce, but he had a son.

In 1967 Joe Meek shot his landlady after an argument and then shot himself. The shotgun he had used turned out to be one that Heinz had left in the flat, and the police at first regarded him as a suspect.

After 67 Heinz went with "The Wild Boys" and did various shows up and down the country. He Appeared at the 1972 Wembley Show of Rock 'n Roll Legends with Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, and he did really well.

However his career in the Pop Business was really over. He returned to Eastleigh in Southampton and went back to an ordinary life, punctuated here and there by pop shows and Appearances. He went to live in Weston Southampton. He contracted Multiple Sclerosis exacerbated by extreme Alcoholic problems and finally died.
