Sara Davis Buechner has established herself as one of today's most exciting and innovative young pianists. In her twenties she was a prizewinner in numerous international piano competitions: Queen Elisabeth, Leeds, Salzburg, Sydney, Vienna and Via del Mar. She was the Grand Prizewinner of the 1984 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition. Since that time she has performed with America's most important orchestras. She has played widely throughout Europe and Asia.
Ms. Buechner, formerly known as David Buechner, regularly presents innovative programs incorporating the use of film and film music. Her Cartoons in Concert recital series has been greeted with great acclaim as a major contribution in educational family programming, and she regularly performs the great concerto works of famous film composers. She is the highest-ranking American prizewinner of the 1986 International Tchaikowsky Competition.
Recently released is a CD entitled The Paradine Case, featuring Ms. Buechner's performances of film concertos. Another disk featuring the complete solo piano music of Miklos Rozsa was released in 1998. Ms. Buechner has also recorded extensively for Connoisseur Society. Her recording of solo works by George Gershwin was selected as "Record of the Month" in May 1994 by Stereophile magazine; and her 1997 recording of the Bach-Busoni "Goldberg" Variations was profiled in the Recordings View column of the New York Times Sunday Arts & Leisure section.
