Bruce of Los Angeles
(1909 - 1974) U.S.A.
Photographer
He was born Bruce Harry Bellas, in Alliance, Nebraska, and taught chemistry there before moving to California in the 1940s, when a wide range of fitness or physique magazines - such as Strength and Health, Muscle Power and Tomorrow's Man - began to emerge.
Produced for a variety of audiences, these magazines primarily catered to fitness buffs and growing gay subculture.
By the 1960s Bruce was able to publish his own magazine, The Male Figure.
