A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, he has lived in Chicago since 1988, after completing his graduate degree at the University of Oregon in Eugene. In 1990, he co-founded Communication Management, Inc. in Wilmette, a management and marketing firm that specializes in special events, public relations, and the nonprofit community.
Kevin Boyer was a co-founder of the Chicago Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and served as its co-chair for four years. He is the former president of the Board of the Gerber/Hart Gay and Lesbian Library and Archives, former Board member of GLADD Chicago and the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, and was the founding co-chair of the Board of Chicago 2006, the organization successfully bid to bring the Gay Games to Chicago in July of 2006. He is now Co-Vice Chair of Chicago Games, Inc., the host organization for the 2006 Gay Games, serving as chair of the Marketing Committee.
Kevin is recognized as one of three co-founders of Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual History Month, celebrated in the US in October since 1994. In 1990, he co-founded Communication Management, Inc. in Wilmette, a management and marketing firm that continues to specialize in special events, public relations, and the nonprofit community. He has led successful federal lobbying campaigns, turned client events from break-even affairs into money markers and achieved major media coverage for his clients throughout the U.S.
Kevin received the President's Award from the Chicago Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in 1996, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Association of Graduate-Professional Students in 1999, the Pearl M. Hart Community Service Award from Gerber/Hart Library in 2001, and the Bailiwick Theatre Trailblazer Award in 2004.
He is a recognized expert on higher education, marketing and gay/lesbian issues, and has been quoted or featured in several media publications, newspapers on college campuses throughout the US and Canada, and local TV news and radio programs in Washington, DC, Chicago, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Eugene, Oregon. Kevin is a member of the National Gay and Lesbian Journalists Association and the American Society for Association Executives.
In 1999, Kevin Boyer partnered with Tracy Baim in a new company, Third Coast Marketing while they were co-chairs of the Chicago Area Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, a firm he now owns by himself. An avid sports fan and active softball player, Kevin continues to reside in Chicago with his partner of 6 years, Bobby Hoeppner.
