John Barlow is a partner, with Michael Hartman, in the theatrical public relations agency, Barlow-Hartman. Incorporated in 1999, the firm has represented more than 100 Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.

Current Broadway productions include Company, A Moon for the Misbegotten, A Chorus Line, Wicked, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Color Purple and Legally Blonde. Off-Broadway productions include In the Heights, The Fantasticks and Second Stage. He serves on the Board of Trustees of Goodspeed Musicals in East Haddam, Connecticut.

John Barlow lives in New York City with his life partner, Scott Rudin.
